Summary:  UGA Large Animal Emergency Room clinician, Dr. Kira Epstein, DVM, DACVS-LA, DACVECC, gave an excellent presentation on “What happens during a colic exam and why?”  Dr. Epstein explained how vets classify colic symptoms and treatment.

Next, Patty Livingston gave a brief history of the Georgia Horse council, reported that the number of current active members is 174 and a there is a bank balance of approximately $14K.  It was noted that the current Board members of the GHC (All Board members of GERL) agreed to take over the GHC (in 2018) to keep the $1M excess liability insurance policy, offered to all GHC members, in good standing.  It was not our intent to restore the Georgia Horse Council to the level of activity that it once was. However, we do have several volunteers who would like to see a horse fair event take place sometime in the future.  With that, Patty introduced Nancy Cox.

Nancy Cox, Lead for the Georgia Horse Fair proposed event, gave a brief presentation on the Georgia Horse Fair. The venue has already been selected-The Georgia international Horse Park in Conyers, Ga. The tentative date of the event is April 17, 2021. The date may change depending on the AQHA World Congress event at the same venue. However, the event will be held in April. Nancy provided information on space available at the venue. Along with a brief idea of what will be provided and how she envisions the event being set up. This is all in the planning stage.  She asked for volunteers to lead the sponsorship of the event, the venders and a volunteer coordinator.   Nobody volunteered.

Action Items-Find volunteers to act as Lead for Sponsors, Venders and a Volunteer Coordinator.   Please contact Nancy Cox at 678-427-6742 or ncox4208@gmail.com if you would like to be a part of the planning of this exciting event.  More info can be found at the new website for the horse fair:  www.georgiahorsefair.org
